27 December 2013

This post is completely inspired by and taken from Wrangling chaos blog written by blogger mom Jess. You can read it here :)

Here's what I started with when I commented on Jess' post on her page:

I don’t do parents at my school who think they know everything that goes on in my class by conversing with their child first, rather than asking me. Those are phone calls I’ll never return on purpose. They care that much, they can hunt me down face to face.

I don’t do winter. Living in AZ has been a dream for the last 9 years. Snow is my nemesis.

I don’t do (hang with or am around) anyone who smokes. Frankly I find the smell repulsing. As well as smokers breath and yellow teeth.

I don’t do generic macaroni and cheese. just can’t and just won’t. Has to be velveeta or

I don't do new years resolutions. Quite frankly I find them to be like a promise you just can't keep.

I don't cook. Or bake. Thank goodness for a husband that does both! Whew! Would you want someone to cook your dinner who burns pop corn? I don't think so!

I don't watch the news. Ever. They never say anything positive or happy on the news, and when they do, its like for a whole 30 seconds which then gets trumped by all the "bad" news. Forget it.

I don't let others borrow my hair brush or anything lip related. Working in a school and getting the 411 on head lice will do that to a person. haha :)

I don't do friends who just had kids and blow you off because they are "busy" thing well. If you have time to piss on the toilet and instagram a photo of your kid, then you have time to reply to an email or a text. Just sayin.

Got any " I don't do's" of your own?

Hallelujah! Joyeux Noel!

I spent all morning on YOUTUBE learning out how to properly put in my new hair extensions!

How did I do?!

I never ever thought I'd be "that girl" with fake hair but I have to admit, I LOVE them! This was a christmas present to myself, as hair is not a cheap thing to purchase!

I asked a ton of people, watched reviews online and decided I'd go with LacedHairExtensions. The lovely Aubrey Kinch was the first person I knew to actually get them, and try them out. I asked her if picking up her old extensions from Sallys was just as good. She told me she'd never go back and that was that! As soon as she uttered those words I decided it was a done deal.

I've always been that girl who could never grow her hair out past the boob area. I am a natural blonde, who has never dyed my hair or permed it or anything of the sorts, so it's always been strange to me that even with the best of care, I could never get my hair to grow long!

I think I've tried every product under the sun and have just come to terms that some people, myself included, just can't grow their hair a certain length!

Here's the website to LacedHairExtensions

I purchased the 18/22 highlight lowlight mix (top seller)
and am happy I did. A lot of people think I am a straight up bleach blonde, when in fact my hair is quite dirty blonde (what us blondes call "dark" underneath!)

The shipping was uber fast too! Total win in my book!

Here's a little before and after...please excuse the sans makeup and PJ pants!

Progression of curling the hair in progress...still no make up eeek!

I am sorry for posting such a vain post on hair of all things on Christmas eve, but sadly it's the most exciting thing that has happened to me in a long while! LOL

Merry Christmas Eve, Eve

It's hard to fully get into the Christmas spirit with no snow here in warm AZ!

Which got me thinking of some of my all time favorite Christmas commericals as a kid.

This one isn't that old, but I still love it!

There you have it friends!

I've written so many awesome christmas posts, I find it hard to top them!

I wrote all about Christmas Trees and the White House you can read that here

All about the famous Chicago Home Alone house here

All about the movie The Holiday here

Wanna read more? type in Christmas in my search box on my blog and keep reading! :)

Sunday Tune

I saw this picture

And instantly, this song came to my mind

Wild horses by The Sundays on Grooveshark

Which of course made me think of the movie "Fear" starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Walhberg and their infamous roller coaster scene which is where I first heard this song.

What's everybody wearing?

Well if you don't follow me on instagram, then you probably missed a few of my new favorite looks!

This is one of my new favorite T Shirts from Hello Apparel. They are based right here in Phoenix! Who knew!

This outfit I wire to the Michael Buble' concert a few weeks ago. Top is from Target!

This adorable elbow patch top I've had for a few months and finally wore it out. It's from the Gap!

This was my Sunday Best for Church two Sundays ago! My whole outfit is from an amazing boutique called Bluetique.

This was my Ugly Christmas outfit for our Staff party last weekend. I know, I know, my sweater is not all that ugly, I couldn't go completely hideous! Cute worked for me...in a 90s era sort of way :)

And lastly, my christmas present that my hubby bought me was this beautiful coat from Banana Republic. I tried it on in the store a few weeks ago, (see first coat picture) and instagrammed it. Of course everyone was saying I had to get it, which I totally agreed! It's not a heavy coat, just perfect for our Fall/Winters here in AZ.

Speaking of outfits, what's everybody wearing for New Years/Christmas this year? I will admit, I have nothing to wear for New Years, this is the second year where my hubby is "on call" and thus we usually can't go out and do anything.

And the Voice is..

Before I get to the winner, can I just say how awesome it was to see/hear/watch Christina Aguilera (MY FAVE) share the stage with the queen diva herself, Lady Gaga?
What does that one commercial say? Oh, It was AMAZEBALLS. Haha!

I was shocked that such powerhouse voices did such a collaboration!

I had to cut out 30 min early last night to go to bed, so I actually didn't get to watch live who won. Which is kind of a joke, because being in a different time zone, it really isn't "live" as they say. That's annoying. Anyhow, I purposefully didn't log on to ANY social media so I wouldn't read or hear who won. Just from turning the TV on this morning to watch the last few min on DVR the news was like "AND THE WINNER OF THE VOICE IS" and I started to say "LA L A LA " very loudly so they wouldn't spoil it for me!

I also really liked this performance by all the boys. I am still wowed by Matthew and Preston's voices.

And hello Celine Dion and Ne-Yo. I cannot stop listening to "Incredible" on spotify. I am hoping Celine is back! I bought her new CD for my Grandma for X mas this year!

Even though I voted for Jackie Lee, I think everyone knew that Tessanne Chin was the clear winner from the beginning, as she proved with her amazing powerhouse Voice.

Who did everyone else want to win?

From Anna to Behati

One thought first came to mind when the VS fashion show was blowing up twitter last night.

All I could recall was Adam Levine and his FORMER girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna.

Remember this?

Yeah now fast forward to last night

Adam's fiance' is only 24! He's 34.

And I think he must have a thing for models. And only VS models at that. Awkward if you are Anne because he's your ex and dating a co worker and awkward if you are Behati since you are getting sloppy seconds.

Of course to each their own, and age may not be an issue for certain people. I just know, in terms for my self, can't imagine getting married at 24 and being "Ready". I also think it's a lot harder when you are in the "industry" such as hollywood to really find "true" love.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...in the art room

If you have a 60 min art class, these are a snap to get done. I only get my kiddos for 40 min, but bless their hearts, they came in on their lunch recess to complete these beauties.
Candy Canes done by 5th grade.

Kinder Christmas or winter mice. This project can be your worst nightmare if you don't have everything prepped and ready to go. I had to hot glue all candy cane tales, eyes and puff ball noses.  All snowflakes were punched out durning prep times or having early finishers from other classes help me out.

1st grade Santa "cropped" portraits. My first graders are so cute look at those rosy cheeks they gave their Kris Kringles.

These are 3D snowflakes and are being completed by a different 5th grade class. Need more than 40 min to complete these!

The bad thing about Dec, is there is only a 3 week window to make any "Christmas" art. The good thing about January is that snowman can be carried into the winter month! :)

Movie Review

Last week during Thanksgiving weekend, I dragged my hubby to go and see "Dallas Buyers Club." I had heard that Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey were up for Oscars for their roles in this film.

I will say this, if you are someone that is uncomfortable watching sex or drugs on screen, this film isn't for you.

There hasn't been an AIDS movie made since Tom Hanks starred in Philadelphia film in 1993.
This is one of those movies that made me "Think" about it even hours after I had seen the film. A reminder to always be careful...you can't fully trust where people have "been" so to speak. And that's all I'll say about that.

What the movie is about:

  1. A son of Texas, Ron Woodroof is an electrician and rodeo cowboy. In 1985, he is well into an unexamined existence with a devil-may-care lifestyle. Suddenly, Ron is blindsided by being diagnosed as H.I.V.-positive and given 30 days to live. Yet he will not, and does not, accept a death sentence. His crash course of research reveals a lack of approved treatments and medications in the U.S., so Ron crosses the border into Mexico. There, he learns about alternative treatments and begins smuggling them into the U.S., challenging the medical and scientific community including his concerned physician, Dr. Eve Saks. An outsider to the gay community, Ron finds an unlikely ally in fellow AIDS patient Rayon, a transsexual who shares Ron's lust for life. Rayon also shares Ron's entrepreneurial spirit: seeking to avoid government sanctions against selling non-approved medicines and supplements, they establish a "buyers club," where H.I.V.-positive people pay monthly dues for access to the newly acquired supplies. Deep in the heart of Texas, Ron's pioneering underground collective beats loud and strong. With a growing community of friends and clients, Ron fights for dignity, education, and acceptance. In the years following his diagnosis, the embattled Lone Star loner lives life to the fullest like never before.

18 years ago you left me. I hardly remember in vivid detail all things I swore I'd never forget as I grew older. I am so grateful for the baby book you kept and filled out until you got cancer. I enjoy pulling it out on this day and seeing your handwriting and the photos to help me remember --- to never forget how important you are to me even though you are gone. You were the best mom a little girl could ever have. RIP mom. 12-7-95 #mom #heaven #myangel

Only the good die young...

Billy Joel never sang truer words than he did in that song. Finding out about Paul Walker last night I genuinely felt sad and like hollywood lost a great one. I felt the same way when Patrick Swayze died a few years ago. Like you wanted to yell to God, "NO! Not that one!" Please!

There was so much mass confusion as to if the actor really did die too. Apparently there was a big internet hoax only a few days or weeks before claiming he had died.

I remember really falling for Paul in Varsity Blues. Hello boyfriend who had sex with Ali Larter on a washer and dryer!  So hot!

I'm not gonna lie, his on screen "romance" with Jordana Brewster is why I loved the Fast and the Furious series so much.

Here he is with Reese Witherspoon in Pleasantville.

Not to many people know Paul was a father to a daughter named Meadow Rain. She lived in Hawaii with her mom all these years. I think Paul did a great job of protecting his daughter's identity, because if you search on google, not a single picture comes up of her. Kudos to you for being a hot hollywood celeb and being able to shield all of who you are away from your daughter to have a normal life.

So Paul, in memory of you, I write this post. I am truly saddened God took you so early.

Social Media -- The Second Factor

#hastag #whateveryonedoesoninstagramandfacebook. And I LOVE IT.

I love all media that shares pictures and with so much negative in the world, I don't mind people that take a boat load of photos of what they eat, wear, do, etc. Photos are a document of that moment in time.

Teachers are people too. Take notes parents

by Abby Rosmarin

Be kind to your children’s teachers.
Be damn kind to your children’s teachers. If you drop off your child in the classroom, say hello. Compliment the new decorations. There’s a good chance he or she worked off the clock to make the room festive. Remind your children to listen to their teachers. To respect their teachers. And don’t forget to respect them yourselves, because if your kids see you act disrespectfully — even at home, even on the phone to your friends — then they will, to.
Be understanding to your children’s teachers. Don’t be that parent who points out a typographical error in a newsletter. Understand that the newsletter was probably typed up at midnight on a schoolnight, with tired, bleary eyes desperately trying to blink away the exhaustion. Understand that, much like the decorations, she’s doing this on her own time.
Be realistic in your expectations. Your children’s teachers are doing all they can to make sure everyone gets a quality education. That those who need individual education plans will get individual education plans. That those who need a little extra help will get that extra help. But he is one teacher amongst upwards of 45 students. If your child is getting a D in a subject, don’t yell at the teacher. Don’t demand an explanation as to why your child isn’t making the grade. Help your damn child. Study with him. Work alongside the teacher; see what you can do to complement the day’s lessons. Don’t have the time or energy to help turn that D into a B? Then don’t expect your child’s teacher to, either. You might’ve had a 45-hour work week; your child’s teacher has a 45-student classroom (and probably a 60-hour week to boot).
Stop it with the snide remarks. Teaching is not babysitting. Teaching is not a part-time job. Don’t like how kids are taught to take tests? Take it up with the school district. Take it up with your local, state, federal politicians. Support government officials who campaign against standardized testing and universal, cookie-cutter lesson goals. But, for the love of God, do not use that against your children’s teachers, or any teacher. Odds are, they are just as frustrated as you, being forced to go down such a formulaic route that sucks all the joy out of learning.
By the way: “Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach”? Nah, kid. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, criticize.
Show your gratitude. Your teacher could be in any other job, with better pay, fewer hours, and considerably less stress. A job that doesn’t force her to attend hours upon hours of workshops — usually on the teacher’s dime, and in their free time — in order to keep their job. With the burnout rate as high as it is, it is small wonder if any teacher can stay at any school for longer than 5 years. But your children’s teachers are there. Working tirelessly, usually with administration breathing down their backs, usually with parents who drop their kids off at 6:30 in the morning, pick them up at 5:30 that afternoon, and still make the joke that teaching is a part-time job. Show that you acknowledge and respect what they are doing.
Tell them this. Sometimes the only time a teacher hears anything from a parent, it’s in the form of a complaint. Sometimes a formal complaint that will go on the teacher’s record, sometimes over things as tiny as a typographical error or shoddy penmanship (you laugh, but I’ve seen it happen). Thank them. You don’t have to buy them presents on Teacher Appreciation Day, but you damn should write them a Thank You note. Have your child help you write the Thank You note, if not write a note as well. Tell them this, because sometimes a parent or student’s gratitude is the only source of support for a teacher.
Be active with your children. The best, kindest thing you can do for your children’s teachers is also the best thing you can do for your children themselves. Care about their field trips. Attend their Open Houses. Ask about their day and work with them if anything is the matter. For the love of God, get off your damn cell phone when entering the school.
Be kind to your teachers. If you go in with a low image of them and the education world at large, if you go in already expecting the teacher to mess up the education of your young child, if you go in with any type of improper attitude, you are doing a world of damage.
They are not miracle workers. They are not there to raise your children in place of you. They are not there to move mountains, even if they wish to. They are your partners in education. They will do whatever is in their power to provide instruction and guidance during school hours (and sometimes beyond). They will lay down the foundations that only the nurturing from the child’s guardians can build from. They will set out the base that only the life experiences outside of the classroom can continue from. They will invest time and money that they don’t have in the name of your children. They will butt heads with administration, advocate when no one else is advocating, and sacrifice more than any teacher should sacrifice in the name of their students.
So you better be damn kind to your children’s teachers.

I can't tell you how many of us teachers have had this conversation. Privately behind closed doors or at lunch or with our spouses at home. Everything stated could not be more spot on. Oh parents, please remember, we are there to help your kids, teach them, care for them, but we can only do so much. You, the parents have to pick up where we leave off at the end of our day.

Like Father like son..

Two words:
Scott. Eastwood.
OMG. Clint Eastwood is now 83, and this is his 25 yr old son. WOW! Can we say he got the exact genes as his old man?

I found it really interesting that Clint Eastwood has SEVEN children with 5 different women, and has only married twice. The first 3-4 kids he actually denied that they were his. Isn't that sad? Geez.

Well Mr. Eastwood I don't think you can deny that this fine young man is indeed your son!

And the AMAs get Political...

Taylor. Justin. Taylor again. Justin again. And again.

Did anyone else win anything that night? Seriously. LOL The top two winners all night long were Miss Swift and Mr. Timberlake.

I kinda freaked out when I DIDNT see Justin Timberlake's wedding ring during his performance. I started tweeting of anyone else noticed, but I think what it came down to was that he didn't wear it while he plays guitar. When he won 2 more awards that night, it was back on his finger. Whew! I was worried there was trouble in paradise!

Taylor looked AMAZING. I'm pretty sure the fact that Gold is so hot right now really helped her achieve her hotness.

Speaking of Hotness. Can we talk about my girl Christina Aguilera? She looked and sounded amazing singing last night. I'm so glad they saved her towards the end.

I'm an avid "The Voice" watcher, and I am so cheering for her team this year. I really hope Matthew wins it!

And these guys just had to jump in and stir things up by talking about racial profiling. UGH.
They seem to forget that our jury system acquitted Zimmerman based on evidence. If Martin had been white and Zimmerman black it would have never even made the headlines. No matter who is at fault or regardless of how ANY of us feel, the jury voted to acquit. I'm pretty tired of this tragedy being made into a race issue and it's quite sad that the headline grabbers won't let it go. And in the words for Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say about that."

Making a statement more than that, move over Miley.

Your strange cat behind you really didn't "Shock" audiences. I'll give you the weird factor yes, but shock value went to Miss Gaga and R. Kelly.

Holy moly!

You can see for yourself in case you missed it.

I LOVE this song. Great song.

If I had a Celebrity Entourage...

If there's anything I've learned as I have gotten older, it's that "good" girlfriends are definitely hard to come by. As we all get older, friends drift their own ways, they get married, have kids, or don't marry and keep up with the fast life of always going out and hitting up the bars.

If I had my choice of celebrities that I'd love to hang with I think it would look a little something like this:

What can I say?! She's perfect. You never hear about her in the media, she keeps her clothes on, picks great roles to star in as an actress, and hello if she really is back with Ryan Gosling who wouldn't want to see them oogle each other?!

Carrie I think I'd hang out with for the pure fact that she'd be a great workout buddy. Someone to motivate you to eat clean and have a great body!

Ellen. She has one of the most giving hearts out there in today's sick sad world. She laughs a ton and dances like no one is watching. All attitudes and ways of life that are good for the soul.

Mila. Because she is someone who keeps her private life PRIVATE, she'd probably be person #1 I'd tell all my "Secrets" to.

I think Rachel Bilson has such a fun personality and great fashion. And Leighton Meester is pretty cool in my book for also keeping a low profile since her Gossip Girl days.

Love triangle

How weird is it that Rachel dated Adam Brody (from the OC) for years then come to find out Leighton Meester is actually engaged to Adam Brody! Weird right?

And speaking of weird....

I've always thought it was weird how much Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester resemble each other don't you?

Who would your celebrity entourage be?

Lets Go to the Movies!

Whenever I hear that tagline or saying I always think of the movie "Annie" and how they sing that number in the movie.

Anyway, where was I? Oh! The movies! I just came home from seeing "Catching Fire" the second installment of The Hunger Games. It was TERRIFIC! I never say that about sequels or series. Like ever!

And I was thrilled to see that the actress Jena Malone had a nice role in the film! She's such a great actress and I hadn't seen her in anything recent in a while!

This is how she looks for the majority of the film

If you aren't familiar with her, her first break out role was in a child abuse movie called Bastard Out of Carolina. I remember seeing it when I was much younger. It was pretty heavy! She was also in the movie Stepmom with Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts.

I saw the trailer called "Endless Love" and the first thought that went through my mind was THE NOTEBOOK!!! It completely made me think of a modern day Noah and Allie and I have a feeling I'll get suckered into seeing it because I can't resist those types of films!

"Endless Love stars Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) and Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) in the story of a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart."

Here's the trailer...

Say it ain't so!

Confession: I felt like my day was made the moment before I got out of my car. I heard on the radio that Ryan Gosling broke up with Eva Mendes and has been seeing an awful lot of Rachel McAdams again.

SHUT the front door! Seriously?!!

I LOVE these two and if they are going to get back together, then all is right in the world!

Ryan doesn't talk much about his relationships with other women, but the one woman he has talked about was Rachel. I remember reading what he wrote in GQ magazine about her and it made my heart swoon for those two.

oh hells yes. Go Ryan go. :)

Reading Frenzy!

I was able to knock out these three books over the past few days!

Take This Regret_new.indd

What Goodreads says:

"People come into our lives. Some stay, and many go. Some build us up, while most tear us down. They become our friends, our enemies, our lovers, our tormentors.

Christian Davison came into mine, and I knew I’d never be the same.

To Elizabeth Ayers, New York City had always been a dream. She’s worked her entire young life to make it here.

Groomed to one day take over his father’s law firm, attending Columbia University was Christian Davison’s only option.

Neither wanted anything more until they sat across from each other at a café table after being paired as study partners.

Christian wants her, but Elizabeth knows better than to give into their intense attraction. Yet there is little she can do to stay away."

These were a good read and the last novel dealt with some very heartbreaking stuff!
